10 Fun Things To Do in Kent For Adults

Kent is known as the Garden of England because the good weather and fertile soils mean a large amount of food is grown in the county.

The county is also well-known for its hops and the distinctive oast houses used to dry them.

Kent is a great county for a day out, with lots of fun things for grown-ups to do. Here are a few of our favourites:

The Maidstone Distillery

If you're 18 or over, why not take a trip to The Maidstone Distillery and find out more about how your favourite tipple is made?

Take a Distillery Tour and Tasting where you can see the still and distilling equipment and have a tutored tasting session.

On the "Cocktail Masterclass & Canapés" evening, you'll learn how to create three classic cocktails and enjoy delicious canapés from Frederic Bistro.

If you're partial to a G&T, the "Guided Gin Making Experience" is perfect for you. In this hands-on session, you'll learn the craft of distilling and even create your very own unique bottle of gin to take home.


The Panic Room

With 16 escape rooms to choose from, the Panic Room is home to the UK's largest selection of escape room experiences.

Grown-ups might enjoy the horror-themed rooms:

  • "The Doll House" is a serial killer themed escape room that starts in the pitch black.
  • "The Happy Institute" includes a live actor and a medical testing facility where something's not quite right.
  • "The Sacrifice" - is an escape van, but you only have 30 minutes to get out!
  • "Hell House" is a large multi-level escape room and the most difficult of all the rooms. You have 75 minutes - but you'll need them.

Non-horror-themed rooms such as "Enigma", "Loop" and "Marvellous Magic School" are also available.

The Panic Room even has an adult-themed escape room - strictly for adults only.

Take a guided tour through the beautiful Kent countryside on an E-Bike.

In the morning you'll visit Yotes Court for a fascinating vineyard tour followed by a delicious lunch and tasting of their still and sparkling wines.

Then it's back on your E-bikes for a leisurely ride to Mereworth Wines for an hour's winery tour and wine tasting.

The whole route is about 15 miles and E-bike hire is included.

Alternatively, if you prefer beer, ask about the (unguided) Brewery Route along quiet country lanes to a local microbrewery with a stop at a country pub for lunch.


Chimera Climbing Centre

Indoor climbing is booming in popularity, and no wonder - it's great exercise, and great fun too.

Chimera Climbing Centre in Canterbury is run by climbers, and it has some of the best bouldering facilities in this part of the country.

Bouldering is climbing without ropes, and Chimera has a wide range of challenging routes that will suit beginners as well as more experienced climbers.

Just turn up, watch a safety video and get going - you don't need expensive equipment and you can rent climbing shoes from reception.

There's a licensed cafe so you can grab a snack or enjoy a well-deserved drink after your climbing session.

Strokes Adventure Golf

Mini golf is always fun and Strokes Adventure Golf has a challenging course that overlooks beautiful Westbrook Bay in Margate.

The course has been home to the British Open and British Championships of mini golf, so you know it's a great quality course that you'll really enjoy.


Boonies Outdoor Adventure

Founded by a veteran with 17 years of service in HM Forces, Boonies aims to empower people to reach their full potential.

The assault course is a long and challenging test of your fitness and motivation, with many obstacles to overcome including hurdles, balance beams, tyres, netting, walls, tunnels, mud and lots more.

There's also an exciting water slide.

Group bookings are welcome and Boonies are happy to customise the session to your requirements.

Boonies welcome stag and hen do's, groups of friends, sports clubs or corporate team building.

There's a small shop for drinks and snacks.


Kentish Lady River Cruises

Based in Maidstone, Kentish Lady River Cruises give you a new perspective on the beautiful Kent countryside from the Upper River Medway.

Between spring and autumn, you can book a 1-hour cruise at weekends from Maidstone to Allington Lock, or 3-hour lunch/supper cruises on weekdays between Maidstone and Teston.

Alternatively, there's the Allington Castle Cruise which includes a visit to Allington Castle that will see you arrive in style!

If you'd prefer to captain a boat yourself, they have two available for self-drive hire:

The Lady Gillian for up to 6 people or the Medway Belle for up to 8.

You must be at least 21 for self-drive hire and after a safety and boat-handling briefing, you'll be able to cruise between Allington Lock and Teston.


Dreamland Margate

Dating back to the railway boom of the 1870s, today, Dreamland still offers all the fun of the seaside amusement park.

A brilliant mixture of exciting rides, shows, food and drink and a festival atmosphere, you're certain to have fun when you visit Dreamland.

Focusing on old-fashioned fun, the rides and amusements include: The Big Wheel, Gallopers, The Margate Maze, Helter Skelter, Rock 'n' Roller, Pinball, Chair-o-Plane and lots more.

Don't miss the Roller Room roller disco at weekends and holidays where you can hire skates and enjoy an hour's session showing off your best moves to the soundtrack of fantastic tunes.
