Things to do in Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway

Langholm is situated in the South West of Scotland in Dumfries and Galloway. It is sometimes referred to as the 'Muckle Toon'. The river which runs through Langholm is the River Esk.

A very big day for people in Langholm is the Annual Common Riding, which brings many people to the town. Locals choose a Cornet who leads many (sometimes hundreds) of horses around the boundaries of Langholm.

Langholm used to be very well known for it's textile industry. Today he town is best known as the birhplace of Hugh MacDiarmid and Thomas Telford.

Langholm has a beautiful church, primary and academy school, many shops, a sports and leisure centre, many great walks, it also has a monument on top of Whitta Hill which is for Hugh MacDiarmid.
