Things to do in Port Carlisle, Cumbria |

Port Carlisle, very near the beginning (or end!) of the Hadrian's Wall Walk is a lovely little hamlet in its own right. It is an ideal place to stay for a few days to enjoy the local bird life which can be seen in abundance.
'Port', as it is known locally, is situated in a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a conservation area and very close to marvelous wet-land bird watching areas. Campfield Marsh at North Plains is very near and Caerlaverock is just across the Solway - about an hour and a half away.
The area is almost flat which makes for very easy walking and cycling. Port is also north of the Lake District National Park and the roads from here to the Lakes are much quieter than those in the south.
It's a lovely place for a short break!
