Things to do in Golcar, West Yorkshire
The village of Golcar is about 3 miles from Huddersfield.
It's a village which boasts some wonderful countryside and spectacular views. You can see for miles into the distance from Golcar's St. John's church.
The canal walks are an excellent day out, and you can walk along the canal for many miles up to the village of Slaithwaite, where many barges are moored alongside the shopping area, or walk in the opposite direction to Huddersfield town centre.
You can take a picnic or just stroll and have a chat with the fishermen as you take in the scenery (maybe even feed the ducks!)
If you are a cricket lover you can walk past the church and watch the local cricket team do battle in one of the most picturesque grounds you will ever see.
The pavilion will welcome you and serve you with drinks during a match.
If you are energetic enough to walk past the cricket ground and up Swallow Lane you will come to the neighbouring village of Bolster Moor with its quaint chapel and magnificent views of Golcar and beyond.
One of the main things that make Golcar so special is that you can always find another walk down a cobbled lane or grassy track that you have not seen before.
If it's a bit of peace and tranquillity you crave then you could do much worse than come off the M62 at junction 23 and chill out in Golcar.
Don't forget to bring your walking boots and a camera!
