Sparth Cottage is an attractive barn conversion, situated in a quiet, picturesque setting near a canal and wooded lake in the Pennine Colne Valley, just outside the Peak District National Park.

It sleeps 4 people and is available for weeks, short lets and single nights.

The pretty village of Marsden is only 5 minutes walk down the towpath, with a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, including the Riverhead which has its own brewery.

Sparth Cottage is conveniently situated for both car and public transport- it is about 20 minutes drive from the M62 and 10 minutes walk from Marsden railway station. The nearest bus stop is 5 minutes walk away.

Internally, there is a living room with a wood burner, flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD player, and a wide selection of DVDs and books, toys and games. Fuel is provided for the wood burner. The room also contains a settee, comfy chair and dining table and chairs.

The kitchen has stone flagged floors, and equipment includes electric hob-oven, microwave, washing machine and fridge freezer.

Upstairs, there are exposed beams and pretty views across the valley. The main bedroom has a king size bed and wardrobes, with bunk beds in the other room.
The bathroom has a full sized bath, with a shower over the bath.

The cottage is gas centrally heated throughout.

Externally there is parking and a lock-up shed, suitable for bike storage.
The cottage is next to a reservoir, for which day fishing permits are available from the local angling group.
Other nearby activities include a golf course, a swimming pool and sports centre, and rock climbing.

There are many signposted walks available locally, such as the Colne Valley Circular Trail and the Pennine Way, and the canal (around 100 yards away) provides a pleasant route into Marsden and other nearby villages.

Sparth Cottage is just outside the northern boundary of the Peak District National Park.
Nearby attractions include:
Holmfirth- an attractive town noteable for being the film location of “Last of the Summer Wine”.
Standedge Visitor Centre- for trips into Britains longest canal tunnel.
Marsden Moor National Trust Estate- a huge area of unspoilt Pennine moorland.

There are also several Good Food Guide rated restaurants nearby, such as The Olive Branch (5 minutes walk), and the Weavers Shed and White Hart.

Although the location is tranquil, the cities of Leeds and Manchester are 35 minutes away on the train, offering the usual selection of attractions and nightlife.

Marsden is host to the annual Jazz Festival, now an important event on the Jazz Calendar, and also the Imbolc Festival of Fire.

The annual Festival of Contemporary Music takes place in nearby Huddersfield.

Sparth Cottage can be hired for short breaks for most of these events.
