BeWILDerwood |
Found deep in the Norfolk countryside, BeWILDerwood is a place of adventure and make believe for children aged between 2 and 102. It is an award-winning attraction and a new concept in child's play.
Calling itself a "Curious Treehouse Adventure", it is a forest-sized area for exploration, imagination and having the time of your life as a family.
Exciting Natural Playground
Set in the natural playground of the Norfolk Broads, BeWILDerwood lends itself to building dens out of bracken, floating sticks or taking boat rides on Scary Lake.Climb up into magical treehouses, fly down zip wires, cross wobbly jungle bridges, take boat trips, slide down slippery slopes and disappear into the storybook world of Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles.
Be prepared for Mildred the Crocklebog, a spiny creature that swims along firing jets of water at unsuspecting passengers.
Dressing up, getting lost in the Muddle Maze and entering the world of make-believe are all part of enjoying the day.
Sturdily built wooden treehouses are every child's dream and young imaginations can run wild as children chase along wooden walkways, tackle climbing frames and rope bridges or navigate "Treacherous Trail" and "Dismal Dyke".
A New Family Play Experience
What makes this attraction unusual is that it is designed for parents to play alongside their children, providing teamwork, support and a great bonding experience as activities are shared together.
It's certainly a better workout than any gym session, and arguably far more fun!
The activities encourage teenagers to help younger siblings to tackle the challenges and adventures.
For younger children, Toddlewood has plenty of variety all scaled down to younger needs and capabilities.
Hints and Tips
Appropriate dress for the day is active outdoor clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Sensible shoes are a must, and long sleeves are a good idea.
When planning your visit you may be surprised to know that weekends are quieter than weekdays during the school holidays.
There are plenty of food and drink outlets, but you might want to bring a picnic and enjoy it in a self-built den as part of your woodland adventure.
There are picnic tables dotted around or you can take a break at the Munch Bar, Snack Shack or the Cosy Cabin.
During colder weather the Snack Shack has a firepit where you can devour bacon rolls, or enjoy storytelling when you dine at the Cosy Cabin.
"A Boggle at BeWILDerwood" Book
BeWILDerwood is actually the setting for a children's book by Tom Blofeld.
If you want a brief orientation of the mystical land of BeWILDerwood, you might want to read the book before visiting.
It will provide an introduction to the land of Boggle and its adventurous characters and is ideal for the under 10s.
The stories are based on Swampy, a Marsh Boggle, and his friends Moss and Leaflette.
They have many adventures in BeWILDerwood and visitors can re-enact some of the tales or create their own in the wonderful woodland setting.
The book is found in the BeWILDerwood shop, the Bizarre Bazaar, and it is also available as an audio book, read by the local author.
