Things to do in Stockton Heath, Merseyside
Stockton Heath is an ever developing village in the borough of Warrington, Cheshire, neighbouring Appleton, Grappenhall and Walton. It is to the South of the Manchester Ship Canal which divides Stockton Heath to North Warrington. It only takes 7 to 10 minutes on the bus or just 25 to 35 minutes by foot to reach the town centre!
Victoria Square is at the very centre of the village. Immediately next to this is a shopping area which includes The Forge Shopping Centre. The village centre is also home to a number of modern bars and restaurants, as well as traditional public houses. The Red Lion Inn dates back to the early 1800s.
Since 1988, much of the centre of Stockton Heath village has been designated a conservation area to preserve its character. At the same time, there has been redevelopment work with several new bars and restaurants moving into the village centre.
Stockton Heath has a police station, fire station, medical centre, park and library, well at least you know that if you set on fire/ get arrested/ fall off the slide in the park you can at least lie down in a cell/ hospital bed with a nice library book.
Every single year the children of St Tomas' Primary school and St Wilfrids Primary school hold a Walking day, this is where children walk the streets in their best clothes and laurel garlands (of course the boys wouldn't be seen wearing flowers on their heads) followed by churches and bands whilst relatives give them money for no reason. After this session has finished most of the young children go to the fair at Walton gardens and spend all of their money on rides and fish and chips from TJ's chippy, famous for their crinkly chips.
