Things to do in Birch, Greater Manchester
Birch-in-Heywood is a small village situated on the road between Hopwood, Heywood and Rhodes.
It's believed to have been formed around the mill which is now used for industrial purposes.
There are probably less than 50 houses now, although when the mill was operational there were considerably more.
The M62 and M66 are within easy reach and Manchester city centre is only about 8 miles away. And there are views of the Pennines and south Lancashire from all around.
We have two pubs, both of which serve food. The White Hart is part of a large chain and the Gardeners Arms is a family-owned house.
They both have individual characters, with the White Hart traditionally being a 'Reds' playground and the Gardeners a 'Blue' house.
For a sleepy little place, there are lots of local attractions within a few miles of Birch.
Manchester is a vibrant city with food drink, shopping and entertainment venues everywhere you look.
Should you want a quieter life a short drive into rural Lancashire of Yorkshire is always a pleasure.
