This description of the Museum of Childhood Memories is for historical interest only - you cannot visit the museum as it has now closed.
Every room, every exhibit, breathes the Magic of Childhood.
A visit to the Museum of Childhood Memories is a uniquely memorable experience. The collection is of absorbing interest to adults and children alike. From an historical angle, it illustrates visually the habits and interests that brought pleasure to families over the past 150 years.
The Museum's collection of about two thousand items is housed in two adjoining buildings making up 9 rooms, each having a different theme:
- Entertainment
- Pottery & Glass
- Clockwork Tin Plate Toys
- Children's Toy Money Boxes & Arcade Machines
- Prince of Wales Corridor
- Teddy Bears, Nursery Furniture & Push Along Toys
- Art Gallery, Rocking Horses & Early Cycles etc
- The Dolls House Room.
There are many attractions in the museum. Some of the exhibits are rare and valuable, but their true value is their charm and their ability to trigger old and happy memories.
We are constantly adding to the collection and are always willing to purchase good quality exhibits, particularly tin and iron money boxes or "Savo's". It is not our policy to accept gifts or loans - we would prefer to pay a fair market price and consider the item our own property.
The Museum is privately owned by the founder, Robert Brown, who purchased the exhibits over a period of many years of diligent searching. Originally situated in Menai Bridge where it was opened by the Marquess of Anglesey in 1973 and moved to its present location in 1985.
The Museum shop offers many toys and gifts for sale, some of collectable value. There is also a wide selection of books, postcards and souvenirs.
