Marle Place Garden and Gallery
Marle Place is a peaceful, privately owned garden with ten acres of formal planting and many more acres of woodland and orchard. The garden surrounds the Jacobean house, not open, but with many interesting external features including a massive chimney stack.
The gardens are a mix of hedged rooms and tree lined avenues. In the spring there are flowering trees and bulbs, later masses of old fashioned roses and herbaceous and annual plants fill the borders. In the Italianate garden almost every plant is chosen for its fragrant or aromatic leaf or flower. The classical pond with its fountain is a focal point and has water lilies, goldfish and rare newts.
Marle Place is filled with exceptional planting and interesting features, art work and sculptures. There is a gallery and artists' studio which house varied exhibitions throughout the season by contemporary painters, sculptors, potters and makers. There are also usually displays in the cart bay and garden. Art workshops and painting tutorials are held throughout the season.
