Boughton Monchelsea Place is a lovely Elizabethan Manor House, dating from 1567. It is still a private family home and was awarded a 2-star rating by Simon Jenkins in his recent work 'England's 1000 best houses'.
It is set in its own estate of 165 acres, much of which is woodland and parkland. The interiors vary in character from Tudor through to Georgian Gothic and Victorian.
Notable features include 16th century and 17th century stained glass in the windows; a fine Jacobean galleried staircase; Tudor stone mullioned windows; original oak parquet floors; stone and marble fireplaces; Elizabethan and later wall panelling.
Refreshments can be taken in the Tearoom by prior arrangement.
Boughton Monchelsea Place is not open to the general public but we offer private guided tours if booked for groups of 15 or more people.
