Fife Folk Museum
The Fife Folk Museum has won many awards, most recently the Glenfiddich and the Kintore awards.
The Fife Folk Museum invites you to discover the history of everyday rural life in this area. Located in the small historic burgh of Ceres, this collection has been built up since the Museum opened in 1968. Generous donations from all over Fife include everything from bars of soap to box beds and bicycles, doll's prams to farm carts, mouse-traps to steam engines.
Explore the burgh tolbooth, which dates from 1673. Inspect the weigh-house, and visit the dungeon and its prisoner! Visit the cottage of a hand-loom weaver and find about the part the linen industry played in Fife from about 1700.
Be transported into the homes, the farms and the workshops of the Kingdom of Fife. A dresser displays the pottery and china so prized in the humblest of homes, including some rare and unusual products of the Fife pottery industry. Lively displays show the clothes people wore, the sports they played and their children's dolls. The museum also has a large collection of lace, patchwork, samplers clothes and accessories.
Find out more about the tools used by skilled craftsmen such as clay pipe-makers, plasterers, stonemasons, thatchers and joiners. Life on a farm a hundred years ago was hard work. Come and learn about working horses, dairying, hand-sowing and harvesting, and the lives of the farm workers.
