The magnificent Petworth House dominates Petworth; one of Sussex's most important country towns. A centre for the cloth industry in the 16th century it features 'gentleman's houses' winding streets and over 20 antique shops. Petworth House, the ancestral home of the Percy, Somerset and Wyndham families, contains the National Trust's finest collection of paintings. Petworth House is also famous for the stunning 17th century carvings by The Doll House Museum in Station Road has over 100 modern and inhabited dolls houses built by well-known makers. The Petworth Cottage Museum is an estate worker's cottage restored and furnished, as it would have been in 1910.
