Things to do in Lydiate, Merseyside
Lydiate (old English for a field with gate in) has some beautiful canal walks with great pubs along the way. Cyclists travel from over the north west and beyond to cycle along the Leeds/Liverpool canal, its popular for fishing too.
There are also 11 farms in this area and the Hayloft next to the chapel and Lydiate Hall do gorgeous cooked breakfasts. Lydiate is historical with St.Catherine's chapel remains dating back to the 11th century until Henry VIII dissolution of the monasteries.
They have outdoor theatre shows every summer were you can bring your own picnic and of course wine. Next door to the chapel is the most famous 'Scotch Piper' with the smallest bar but the utmost atmosphere; you will be most welcome in this inn.
There is a rumour a young Shakespeare stayed with the Ireland family at Lydiate Hall during the reformation. This town is quaint and beautiful and I am very proud to live here with my family
