A Short Break in the UK

Planning a short break in the UK will leave you spoiled for choice. For so small an island, it's amazing how many utterly different and absorbing things there are to see and do. From the high-energy, cosmopolitan city life of places like London, Glasgow and Newcastle to historical havens like Bath, York and Edinburgh.

There are any number of locations in which to get away from it all, surrounded by stunning, yet varied, scenery. Destinations like The West Country, Snowdonia National Park, Yorkshire, The Lake District, the Scottish Highlands and Islands are all possessed of tremendous scenery and offer the visitor great reward, yet they're just a few examples from this much larger total.

Activity breaks, special interest pursuits - they're all yours for the taking on a short break in the UK.

For overseas visitors, a short break in the UK will tend to be centred around cities or known attractions. This can make a lot of sense, as most British cities offer a wide range of attractions and activities to perfectly fill the days and nights of an average short break trip.

However, for the more adventurous, locating somewhere less at the centre of things and making your own itinerary can be very rewarding. Car hire is common place, the roads generally good and British driving generally safe and orderly, even if road-travel can be frustrating at times, especially in the South East of England.

There is a growing trend for British people to augment foreign holidays with a short break in the UK at various points throughout the year. It's a very rewarding pastime, and many happy travellers claim they hadn't realised there was so much to see and do in their own country, whether sporty, famous landmarks, museums and galleries, amusement parks or whatever.

With the advent of cheap and plentiful internal flights, there's virtually nowhere in the land that's not a viable destination for a short break in the UK. It really comes down to what kind of break you're after.
