Wolverhampton Art Gallery
Established in 1884, Wolverhampton Art Gallery is an award winning hands-on art gallery situated in Wolverhampton city centre. The Gallery has substantial collections of both Contemporary Art and sumptuous displays of Victorian and Georgian paintings.
The nationally acclaimed collection of Pop Art works (one of the largest outside of London) is displayed in the two unique triangular galleries known as our Pop Gallery.
A series of access initiatives has also won the Gallery a Gulbenkian Award for the best provision for people with disabilities in 1996, an Interpret Britain Award in 1997 and 'Best Museum of Fine Art' in 1998. Shortlisted in 2008 for The Guardian's Family Friendly Museum Award, the gallery offers a number of fun things to do.
In the permanent exhibition 'Sensing Sculpture', visitors are encouraged to use sight, smell, touch and hearing to explore the exciting and diverse range of sculptures. The complete sensory experience allows for visitors to engage with works, as they never have done before.
Throughout the year there are a wide variety of fun-packed educational activities and workshops on offer at the gallery to engage visitors from all cultures, backgrounds and ages. Many workshops are free but booking maybe essential depending on the popularity of the activity. There is also a state-of-the-art multimedia suite offering a range of digital workshops for all abilities.
There is also a gallery shop featuring work by craft-makers, books and postcards and a cafe serving a selection of hot and cold drinks and delicious cakes and other snacks.
