Dalemain is a much-loved family home, set against the grandeur and splendour of the Lakeland Fells and the surrounding parkland.
Behind the impressive pink ashlar façade lies the real surprise of Dalemain - its sheer variety.
The history of the house stretches from Saxon times to early Georgian and has been in the same family since 1679.
There are fascinating interiors with fine furniture, family portraits, ceramics, dolls' houses, old toys, Mrs Mouse's House and the Westmorland & Cumberland Yeomanry Museum.
The interior includes the Chinese Room with its original 18th century, hand-painted wallpaper, the Tudor Fretwork Room with its magnificent 16th-century plaster ceiling and oak panelling, plus winding passages, quaint stairways and unexpected rooms
There is a delightful and captivating 5-acre plantsman's garden of richly-planted herbaceous borders with an intriguing and unusual combination of flowers.
The Rose Walk has over 100 old fashioned roses and ancient apple trees, there are wild gardens and riverside walks to enjoy and in early summer a famous display of Himalayan blue poppies.
New additions in the gardens include an Earth Sculpture Giantess and Wild Flower Spiral.
