A grand Palladian mansion, built in the 1730s by the Venetian architect Leoni and notable for its magnificent two-storeyed Marble Hall. The house is filled with superb 18th century furniture, porcelain, textiles and carpets collected in the 1920s by the connoisseur Mrs Gubbay. The attractive gardens contain a parterre, grotto, sunken Dutch garden and a Maori meeting house with a fascinating history explained in the main house
