Tonbridge is an ancient town dominated by its Norman Castle, it was built in a delightful setting on the River Medway. Home to the famous Tonbridge School founded in 1553 by Sir Andrew Judd a former Lord Mayor of London.
The father of Jane Austen taught at the school and cricketer Colin Cowdrey learnt the game there.
Penshurst Place and Gardens is near Tonbridge and is open to the public, as is Penshurst Vineyards. Not far away is Hever Castle and Gardens, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.
