All Stretton is the northernmost of the three Strettons that are strung out along the road from Shrewsbury to Ludlow below the sprawling bulk of the Long Mynd.

It has a pub, a hotel and a shop or two.

Other amenities, including excellent teashops, are just down the road in Church Stretton.

A beautiful side valley called The Batch leads up from All Stretton into the uplands of the Long Mynd, and across the main valley is the rocky ridge of the hill called Caer Caradoc.

This Celtic name denotes the fortress of the chief Caradoc, who the Romans called Caractacus.

According to legend, this was the site of the last stand of Caradoc against the invading Romans around AD 43.

Caer Caradoc is a miniature mountain, steep-sided and with excellent views from its airy ridge.
