Goodrich Castle is the most complete medieval castle in Britain, despite its turbulent history. Built on a rocky outcrop with exhilarating views over the Wye Valley, it gives a fascinating insight into fortress life seven centuries ago.
There's a 12th century keep to explore, along with the chapel and a maze of small rooms and passageways. It's possible to climb the ramparts, peer through defensive 'murder holes' and, with the help of the free audio tour, learn all about the famous Civil War Siege. 'Roaring Meg' - the gun that destroyed the castle - is also there to be seen.
