This video from Historic Royal Palaces is a fantastic introduction to Hampton Court Palace.

The narration explains that there are really two palaces in one - a Tudor one, built by Cardinal Wolsey in the time of Henry VIII and a Baroque one built by William and Mary.

With more than 1,000 rooms, 18 courtyards and 700 acres of parkland, and 60 acres of gardens you can't help but be impressed - and of course that was the idea!

In the video you'll see the tudor kitchens that could feed 600 people twice a day, the fantastic formal gardens with their magnificent fountains, and the world famous trapezoidal maze - which survives from William IIIs wilderness garden.
