Things to do in Skipness, Argyll and Bute |
Skipness is accessible from Tarbert via a very pleasant walk, rich with flora and fauna, or by road via Claonaig, where lies the ferry terminal for Arran.
Skipness has a famous Castle, started in the 13th century and abandoned at the end of the 17th century. It withstood siege by the Macdonald's during the Colkitto raids, who then went on to enjoy more success at Dunaverty, where they massacred the inhabitants.
Nearby stands a Chapel dedicated to St. Brendan, dating from the 13th century. It is in good repair, and some very interesting carved medieval tombstones lie protected by wooden cases.
