Step inside this beautiful house and you are immediately immersed in the atmosphere of a typical Scottish laird's residence. The family line of the Leith-Hays, who lived here for almost three centuries, was tragically brought to an end by a motor-cycle accident in 1939; but the house still bears witness to their illustrious story. The last laird's mother wrote: 'There is no haunting but their home is full of their presence'.
The family were renowned both for their local activities and for their military achievements. An exhibition, For Crown and Country, displays a
unique collection of military memorabilia. Every one of the elegant rooms, including the unusual oval room, is brimming with treasures.
The Garden
Outside the house, there are 286 acres of scenic estate land to explore. The formal and informal gardens are noted for their colour and diversity, and overlook some of Aberdeenshire's finest rolling countryside. There are also three waymarked walks through mixed woodland, as well as the unique 18th century stables and an ice house. Wildlife trails, picnic facilities and a first-class tearoom complete an enjoyable day for all the family.Additional Information:
