Fontwell Park is one of the oldest watering holes in Britain! Named the 'Font' Roman soldiers knew the spring by the side of the road as an important stopping point on their journeys between the ancient towns of Chichester and Arundel. Passing monks who relied on the stream for clean drinking water, added the Anglo-Saxon word 'well', and ever since the village of Fontwell has stood at the busy junction of routes across West Sussex. Alfred Day laid out the unique figure of eight steeplechase course at Fontwell Park in 1924, creating an important meeting place for the local community. Both the spring and the well can be found today, within the grounds at Fontwell Park.

Which Enclosure?

  • Hospitality. A variety of boxes and function rooms are available at affordable prices. Boasting an excellent view of the racecourse, each box provides the perfect opportunity to entertain your guests. Please telephone for details.

  • Premier. A Premier Enclsoure badge admits the holder to all public areas of the course. You will also enjoy exclusive use of the Premier Grandstand opposite the Winning Post, the Premier Bar and Garden Bar and the Fontwell House Restaurant. Advanced booking in the Silks Restaurant is advisable.

  • Grandstand & Paddock. The enclosure offers Grandstand viewing facilities, a variety of food and drink outlets and access to the area surrounding the paddock and winners' enclosure. Admission also entitles access to the centre of the course. A picnic may be enjoyed from the heart of the action in the comfort of your own car.

    On race days there is a bus from Barnham train station, 3 miles from the course. The shuttle bus runs 2 hours before the first race and after the last. There is a £2.00 return fare.
