Horseracing was started at the Goodwood Racecourse by the 3rd Duke of Richmond in 1802. It continues to stage twenty-two days of the finest racing in the sporting calendar as well as being a firm diary date in the English Summer Season.
The Festival Meeting, known affectionately as "Glorious Goodwood", has been a unique part of the British racing and social calendar since 1814. All five days offer top class action, with
races over the full range of distances. Away from the track, the Richmond Enclosure lawns are adorned with fashion cognescenti and celebrities from sport, stage and screen.
Goodwood has three enclosures overlooking the course, giving spectacular views of the Sussex Downs. The Richmond (Members) Enclosure is open to all, except during the Festival Meeting, when it is reserved for members, their guests and corporate clients. It features the Kinrara Pavilion, as well as the acclaimed Double Trigger seafood restaurant. The "Racing Colours" shop stocks an exciting range of racing inspired products.
The Gordon Enclosure is the main enclosure at Goodwood with access to the Sussex Grandstand and the Paddock including the stunning Parade Ring, and Winners' Enclosure. It is here that the horses, jockeys and celebrities can be seen at close quarters and form can be studied whilst enjoying light refreshments in the Gordon Pavilion. A fully supervised creche can also be found in this enclosure during
the Festival Meeting. Entry to the Gordon Enclosure for the Festival Meeting is by ticket only purchased in advance.
The Lennox Enclosure offers extensive trackside viewing of the home straight as the horses gallop to the winning post, this value-for-money enclosure features bars and catering facilities.
Alternatively, racegoers can bring their own picnic (soft drinks only). Entry to the Lennox Enclosure for the Festival Meeting is by ticket only purchased in advance.
Once inside the enclosure that has been booked, members of the party can upgrade enclosure, if they wish by simply paying the difference between the normal prices at the transfer point, except to the Richmond Enclosure during the Festival Meeting.
