British Rivers and Waterways
In Britain, you'll find some of the most beautiful rivers and waterways anywhere in the world.
Throughout the British countryside, rivers and canals play many roles:
They are a haven for wildlife like water voles, otters, herons and kingfishers.
They are also home to Britain's thousands of keen anglers who spend many happy hours in a beautiful environment, pitting their wits against the fish.
On many rivers you'll see canoeists and other craft on the water.
British rivers have played an important part in our history too - with many of our most ancient towns and cities (including London itself) growing up beside rivers.
