The Museum of Childhood at Llangeler is more than a toy museum, it is an extensive collection of all things to do with childhood. In addition to the usual dolls, teddies, cars and trains, the collection has textiles, costume, a schoolroom and "Memory Lane" - a time line of showcases that takes the visitor through the twentieth century illustrated with toys and other artefacts.
As children, we all grow up in an adult world and this is amply demonstrated with examples of old telephones, phonographs, gas masks, tableware, costume, magazines, and branded goods right through to the introduction of mobile phones and personal computers.
Having in excess of 10,000 exhibits, the museum attracts the curious as well as the serious collector; it also has appeal for students of all ages. There is a splendid educational resource to be found on the museum web site, designed for easy download by teachers and students alike.
The museum is housed in traditional stone Welsh farm buildings (one of which was an original Long House), all arranged around the old farmyard that stands along with the late 18th century farmhouse, in twelve acres of beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside.
Car park, tea room, gift shop and all parts of the museum have level access.
A play area and picnic tables are provided for the use of visitors. Coach parties are welcome.
We also operate a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site.
We are proud of the facilities we have on site with a 24 hour modern toilet block which is well-lit, with baby changing facility and easy access suite, hot running showers, sluice for chemical toilets, and NOW - electric hook-ups for all five caravan pitches.
