Westoe Tourist Information |

Westoe is a historic peaceful oasis in the heart of South Shields, and has links with several famous people. It was well known to Catherine Cookson during her youth and the setting for several of the books. Westoe was also the birthplace of actress Dame Flora Robson and Sir William Fox, three times Prime Minister of New Zealand. Elinor Brent-Dyer, author of the Chalet School books, was born in South Shields and educated in Westoe Village.
