The Castle
Lulworth Castle was built between 1608 and 1610 and became the family home of Humphrey Weld when he purchased the estate in 1641. It was built primarily as a hunting lodge and has played host to a total of seven monarchs.Tragically it
caught fire in 1929 and was reduced to a virtual ruin. In the 1970s restoration work was begun with the help of English Heritage. The exterior is now exactly as it was the day before the fire, whilst the interior has been consolidated. We are
left a unique building which, with the help of artefacts, interpretation and activities for children, tells the story of its history and of the family who lived here.
The Estate contains some of the most wonderful countryside in England which you are invited to explore,
enjoy and appreciate.
Lulworth Cove & Heritage Centre
Lulworth Cove is loved by walkers, geologists, naturalists and sunbathers. Admission is free to the Heritage centre, where you can learn about this unique coastline. Explore the network of carefully conserved coastal walks or enjoy a summer boat trip.
