Brooklands Museum opened in 1991 on 30 acres of the original 1907 motor-racing circuit. The Museum features the most historic and steepest section of the old Banked Track and the 1-in-4 Test Hill. Many of the original buildings have been restored including the Edwardian Clubhouse, where period room settings recall the atmosphere of those heady days - The Billiard Room, Clerk of the Course's Office, Ladies' Reading Room and the 'Weighing Court' were all provided for the benefit of the Brooklands Automobile Racing Club members whose slogan was 'The Right Crowd and No Crowding'.
The original Motoring Village with its 1920s Shell and BP Pagodas also includes Malcolm Cambell's workshop now displaying historic Brooklands racing cars and motorcycles.
The recently restored ERA Shed houses the speed record exhibition 'Fastest on Earth' which tells the story of the men and machines that established world records at Brooklands and elsewhere in vehicles developed and tested on the circuit.
The Museum also has a collection of over 30 aircraft representing 80 years of aviation industry at Brooklands from A.V. Roe's first flight to the design and production of Concorde. The unique collection of Vickers and Hawker aircraft includes 'R' for 'Robert', the restored Wellington bomber rescued from Loch Ness in 1985 and now displayed in an original Vickers Wellington dispersal hanger, and the Sultan of Oman's luxurious VC10 which is open on major motoring and aviation event days.
Concorde G-BBDG ("Delta Golf")is now on site and available to the public for viewing. Work will continue throughout 2006 and 2007 to bring her up to standard and visitors are invited to make a donation to the Concorde Fund on entry to the aircraft.
Other aviation buildings include the World's First Flight Ticket Office built for Keith Prowse in 1911 and the Barnes Wallis Stratocruiser Chamber currently housing the Museum's Aero Engine collection. Special Motoring and aviation events are held on many weekends. Please send a SAE for a programme.
