Thrift cottage is our quirky Grade 2 listed cottage in the small market town of Saxmundham, 8 miles from the sea, 4 miles from Snape Maltings concert halls, 6 miles from the bird reserve at Minsmere. Ideal for anyone wanting an affordable and old-fashioned escape to the Suffolk coast.
The cottage is clean and comfortable but has no frills. There is a beamed sitting room with sofa, armchairs and a gas fire. The dining room seats 6 to 8 people and there is a small kitchen with cooker, fridge, sink, kettle, and toaster.
The cottage has 3 bedrooms; the attic bedroom has a double bed, the middle bedroom has twin beds, and the small bedroom has bunk beds. There is also a spare futon and mattress. The bedrooms and small bathroom all open off each other so privacy is minimal. A steep winding staircase links the three floors, so may be challenging for the very young or very old.
There is a long back garden with lavender, pinks and sea thrift on the patio area.
We have gas central heating and a gas fire in the sitting room and the cottage warms up quickly. The cottage is high on character but has few mod cons, so you won't find a phone, TV, WiFi, dishwasher, or washing machine, but there are lots of books, games and jigsaws.
Thrift Cottage is our much loved but eccentric family cottage that also gets used as a writer's retreat. It won't be right for everyone but it might be for you.
It is our first time of renting out so late bookings may well be available.
