Foxtwood Estate is situated at Froghall Wharf in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands. This development of country cottages is built in traditional canal side style with archways leading to a central courtyard.
It is set in a superb location overlooking the Caldon Canal, and bordered by its own small stream and private fishing lake. Immediately surrounding the buildings are our own 30 acres of woodland, valley and streams all available for your enjoyment. Around this are Forestry Commission and sites of Special Scientific Interest areas through which many footpaths run - including the canal towpath.
A paradise for nature lovers and those with patience may see kingfishers, herons, buzzards and maybe even deer. The wild flower meadows are beautiful in spring and early summer where orchids, cowslips, primroses and old native species grow in abundance.
Lying on the southern edge of the Peak District, the Staffordshire Moorlands contain some of the finest and most varied landscape in the country. Rocky crags and wild moorland contrast with green dales, wooded valleys and beautiful villages.
Close by is Dovedale, one of the England's loveliest stretches of river, and the Roaches, those grand stone outcrops frequented by climbers and walkers.
There are many good pubs and hostelries! One of our locals the Fox and Goose has particularly fine food. Canal trips and a steam train run in the Churnet Valley and for the adventurous Alton Towers is only a 10-minute drive. Beyond these the moorlands are relatively undiscovered; yet the beauty is there and without the crowds, there are many miles of way marked footpaths.

From Stoke-on Trent:
Take the A52 towards Ashbourne. After about 8 miles there is a petrol station on your right, where you should take care to continue on the A52 by turning left. Carry on for another 3 miles, going down a long hill untill you come to Froghall on the valley floor. Take the second road on the left signposted to Foxt and follow this road for 600 yards. This will take you through the Froghall Wharf picnic site (scattering of roadside buildings), over the canal bridge and we are immediately on the left. |
