It’s the ultimate holiday luxury - your own private swimming pool - not shared with anyone else - just for you and your family to use whenever the fancy takes you.
Self catering properties with shared pools are quite easy to find - but cottages with private pools are a bit harder to come by - so we’ve searched the length and breadth of the country, and we’ve found 8 beautiful cottages with equally stunning private swimming pools.
These are all beautiful outdoor pools - which are perfect for enjoying the sunshine while you splash in the pool, or for lying by the pool, working on your tan, and watching others being energetic.

The Retreat
Washford near Watchet, Somerset
This cottage has a lovely private pool surrounded by a paved area, ideal for a bit of sunbathing. The pool is heated in June, July and August, and is available from 1st May to 1st Oct.
The Retreat also has a hot tub, and a sauna, so you can enjoy a range of fun and pampering experiences as part of your break.
There’s even a games room with a pool table and a wood burning stove.
You’re sure to be cosy at any time of year, as the cottage has two wood-burners, central heating and underfloor heating too!
The kitchen-diner is sure to be a popular room with its large handmade table, and patio doors that encourage you to eat outdoors on the lawn when the weather is right.
The Retreat sleeps 16, in 8 bedrooms. There’s another cottage next door if you need to accommodate a larger party.
This part of Somerset is ideal for a family holiday, as it’s situated near the coast, with the Quantock Hills to the East, and the beautiful Exmoor National Park to the West.
There are lots of nearby attractions to explore including Cleeve Abbey, Dunster Castle, the West Somerset Railway, or perhaps a visit to the Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre.

Norton Grange
Norton, near Worcester, Worcestershire
If you like your self-catering properties to be classic and historic - this Grade II listed country house, dating from the 1800s with its own clock tower might just fit the bill.
The all-important private pool is just outside - with plenty of space to sit around it and share in the fun. It’s quite a large pool, yet it’s heated, with a target temperature of a comfortable 22 degrees when conditions allow. The swimming pool is available from 2nd May to 30th September.
Norton Grange sleeps 16 people in 6 bedrooms (one with a four poster bed) and enjoys beautiful views of the Worcestershire countryside from several bedrooms.
The drawing room is beautifully decorated and furnished, and the lovely dining rooms can seat a party of 16 all together. There’s even a small woodland to enjoy.
As well as the lovely Worcestershire countryside, Norton Grange offers easy access to the historic county town of Worcester itself which has lots of great attractions for visitors including the Cathedral, Guildhall, and Royal Worcester Porcelain Museum. Malvern is also within easy reach, or take a day trip to the Cotswolds and enjoy the scenery and exploring many beautiful villages.

Treetops
Govilon near Abergavenny, South Wales and Pembrokeshire
Our next holiday cottage is located near Abergavenny in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park.
Once again, this is a holiday cottage with a private pool - and although its outdoors, it’s also fully covered, meaning you can enjoy a dip in the pool even if the weather isn’t perfect.
There’s an outdoor hot tub too - and you can even watch the TV in the garden room from the hot tub!
Treetops has 7 bedrooms and can sleep up to 17 people in total.
The gardens are terraced, and paths allow you to walk through and enjoy them. There’s a superb conservatory, and the kitchen boasts a large dining area so that everyone can eat together at mealtimes. The sitting room has a lovely wrap-around balcony, and there’s a wood-burner in the snug for cosy evenings in.
There’s lots to see and do in the Abergavenny area with cycling and walking particularly well catered for: The Abergavenny and Brecon canal is a great route, and runs through the village. You could explore the beautiful Brecon Beacons, or stay closer to the cottage and look round bustling Abergavenny itself.

Rosemount House
Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Angus
With 8 bedrooms (5 en-suite) and sleeping 16 people, Rosemount House is perfect for a larger party.
The private, heated, outdoor swimming pool is a large one measuring 30ft by 15ft, and it’s available from May to August - and may be available in April and September at extra cost. There’s a luxury hot tub available too - for an extra £100 per week.
The cottage has superb views, and guests are sure to enjoy relaxing in the wood-panelled sitting room as well as the elegant drawing room furnished with antiques and paintings. The kitchen has an AGA - another country house tradition. And there’s even a pool table on the landing.
There’s a golf course nearby, as well as some great walks, fishing on the River Tay, and winter sports in Glenshee. Visitors can also explore nearby Blairgowrie, or the many attractions of the nearby cities of Dundee and Perth.

White Hopton House
Sarn, near Bishop’s Castle, Mid Wales and Cardigan Bay
What a treat it must be to stay in this stunning black and white 17th Century timbered country house!
All the more of a treat because it also has a private heated swimming pool - and it’s a beauty: 40ft by 20ft, 3ft to 6ft deep, heated to 86 degrees F (that’s 30 degrees C), and available all year round! With ample seating around the pool, a hot-tub and a sauna, there’s a risk you’ll never leave the cottage!
And that would be a shame because this rural area has a wealth of superb walks and cycle rides to offer, as well as the opportunity to visit Bishop’s Castle, Ludlow, or the lovely seaside at Cardigan Bay.
When you get back to the cottage you’ll all enjoy the lovely kitchen with its range cooker and large kitchen table - and eating together in the dining room.
There are also two sitting rooms, both with large screen TVs, one offering a wood-burning stove in the inglenook fireplace.
Sleeping 12 people in 6 bedrooms, White Hopton House is a self catering property that just oozes character, with its exposed oak beams, lovely fenced pond in the garden and peacocks and geese on the lawn.

House on the Hill
Woodhouse Eaves near Loughborough, Peak District and Derbyshire Dales
Our next cottage is situated in two acres of private grounds on the edge of the lovely village of Woodhouse Eaves.
Once again, this is a holiday cottage with a private, heated swimming pool. It’s 10m by 6m (approx 30ft by 18ft), and it’s available from April to October, and heated from May to September. Seats and loungers are provided.
There’s a games room too, offering Table Tennis, and Table Football, so the kids (and grown-ups) will have plenty to keep them occupied.
If you don’t fancy cooking every night, a 10 minute stroll into the village gives you a choice of excellent pubs and restaurants.
The House on the Hill has three floors and sleeps 16 people and has 7 bedrooms - and the Master Bedroom has an en-suite with Jacuzzi and a balcony too! The whole house enjoys beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
Nearby Beacon Hill is a 330 acre country park with lots of trails for walking and cycling. At weekends, you can see the full-size steam trains running on the Great Central Railway, or take a visit to nearby Loughborough, Melton Mowbray or Derby, each of which offer lots of interesting attractions to explore.

Plas Newydd
Rhoshirwaun near Aberdaron, North Wales and Snowdonia
Back to Wales for our next holiday cottage with a private swimming pool - Plas Newydd is a lovely property that dates back to the 18th century.
The pool is a real beauty - 36 feet long, heated, and with ample seating room for sunbathing by the water. There are also outbuildings with a changing area and toilet.
The cottage has many lovely features to enjoy - a large inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove, A large AGA range cooker in the kitchen, wood panelled walls, exposed beams, spiral staircase and lots more.
Plus Newydd has 7 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and will sleep 13 people.
The surrounding area is a fantastic choice for a holiday - the cottage is only four miles from Whistling Sands Beach - in the care of the National Trust, it’s one of the best in North Wales. Why not take a trip to Abersoch which is only 9 miles away, or explore the National Heritage Coastline?
Whatever you choose to do on your holiday - Plas Newydd makes a great base from which to do it.

Rushmore Lodge
Knockholt near Sevenoaks, Kent
Our final cottage is in Kent - the Garden of England - and it’s a luxury cottage with a contemporary style.
Of course there’s a private swimming pool, which is heated, and available from 1st April to 31st October. There’s also a relaxing whirlpool to enjoy.
The compact modern kitchen is on a mezzanine and overlooks the sitting and dining areas - so you’ll always know what’s going on - even if you’re on kitchen-duty! You’ll be comfortable too - as the cottage has underfloor central heating.
If you’re feeling energetic, Rushmore Lodge has a well equipped gym, with treadmill, exercise bike, rowing machine, strider and weights - you can even watch a DVD while you work on your fitness! There’s an infra-red sauna too.
As if that wasn’t enough - the cottage has a games room too - with a choice of pool or table football. Let’s face it - you’re going to struggle to get the kids to leave this cottage!
If you succeed - this area of Kent has lots to offer: Walking on the North Downs Way, a selection of beautiful stately homes to visit, such as Chartwell (Sir Winston Churchill’s house), Squerryes Court or Knole Park, and other attractions like Crofton Roman Villa or Chislehurst Caves.
Nearby towns and villages worth visiting include Chevening and Sevenoaks. If you fancy some shopping the enormous Bluewater Shopping Destination, with more than 300 shops isn’t far away either.
