One of the keys to a successful self-catering holiday is keeping everybody entertained. And that’s especially important if you have kids.
Since we can’t always guarantee perfect weather in the UK, it makes sense to have lots of things to do indoors, so the time you spend at the holiday cottage is just as much fun as time spent exploring the attractions of the surrounding area.
What better way to keep everyone happy than to choose a holiday cottage with an indoor pool and games room? Pretty much guarantees no bored kids, less time playing with their phones, and lots of splashing about having fun, or potting balls.

Brecon Cottages - Crows Nest 1
Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales & Pembrokeshire
One of fifteen stone-built holiday cottages situated in the scenic Brecon Beacons National Park, “Crows Nest 1” benefits from access to a large shared heated indoor swimming pool.
The games room is well equipped and offers table tennis, table football and pool.
But that’s not all the entertainment on offer - there’s a dry ski slope to allow you to brush up on your skiing technique (lessons available) - a tennis court, and even a crazy golf course, so there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained.
The cottage is next door to the National Showcases of Wales, and visitors staying at this cottage will receive a discount on entry to the caves.
As well as exploring the National Park, it’s not too far to enjoy a day trip to the sandy beaches of the Gower Peninsula, or all the activities and attractions of nearby Swansea.

Lilac Cottage
Ebberston near Pickering, North York Moors & Coast
Our next holiday cottage is a superb semi-detached conversion of a stone-built barn - one of five cottages situated around a central courtyard.
All the cottages share access to a superb indoor swimming pool and games room with pool (2x20p per game), table tennis and dartboard.
Lilac Cottage sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms, and has a lovely open-plan living room, an open fire and access to a Victorian walled garden and an acre of woodland with a stream and a pond.
Local attractions include excellent walking and cycling trails in Dalby Forest. Alternatively, head for the seaside at Whitby or Scarborough, or explore the local towns such as Pickering, or take a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Brookway Lodge
Lloc near Whitford, North Wales & Snowdonia
This luxury detached bungalow is ideal for a larger party looking for a holiday cottage in North Wales with a luxury indoor swimming pool and games room. There’s even a hot tub!
You’ll know this is somewhere special from the moment you arrive, as you drive through the electronic gates onto the driveway!
With a total of 8 bedrooms, and sleeping up to 19 people in total, Brookway Lodge is ideal for a large get together of family or friends. The spacious living room has ample seating and a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings in.

Marchington near Uttoxeter, Peak District & Derbyshire Dales
This semi-detached holiday cottage has two bedrooms and sleeps 4 people.
There’s are patio doors leading from the living room out onto the patio area - and the outside space also includes a lawn leading down to a beautiful wildflower meadow.
The swimming pool is in the pool house just next to the patio - and although it’s shared - you can book private use of the pool. Upstairs in the pool house there’s a games room where you can either watch the fun going on in the swimming pool, or enjoy a game of pool or table tennis.
Away from the cottage, there are lots of footpaths to help you explore the surrounding countryside. Alternatively you can visit Uttoxeter, Ashbourne, the Peak District National Park, and even Alton Towers is quite nearby.

Honeysuckle Cottage
Poughill near Bude, Cornwall
If there’s just the two of you going on holiday*, then Honeysuckle Cottage, in Cornwall might be just what you’re looking for. (You can even bring two well-behaved dogs!).
The cottage is one of 12 holiday homes, but has its own private garden, as well as access to the grounds with orchards and a children’s playground. There’s even a games room.
Once again, it has access to a heated indoor swimming pool - this one is 40ft long! And there’s also a games room with Pool and Table Tennis.
Honeysuckle Cottage is superbly located, just two miles from the North Cornwall coastline - so every day you can choose between enjoying South West Coast Path with its stunning clifftop walks, or heading for one of the many sandy beaches in the area, and soaking up the sunshine.
You’ll enjoy the local village of Poughill (pronounced “Poffle”) with its thatched cottages and village pub, or you can visit the seaside resort of Bude which is only 2 miles away.

Eel House
Graythwaite near Hawkshead, Cumbria & The Lake District
Cumbria and the Lake District is a wonderful area for a self-catering holiday - there’s just so much to see and do.
And Eel House, just 4 miles from Hawkshead would be a great place to stay. The cottage has 5 bedrooms and can sleep up to 10 people. It’s situated on a 5,000 acre private estate, and forms part of a collection of cottages around a central courtyard.
Like the other cottages, Eel House has been refurbished to a very high standard, yet it also retains lots of original character.
During your stay, you’ll have access to a superb indoor swimming pool - a Table Tennis room, and also a gym.
In the spring and summer, you’ll be able to wander in Graythwaite Hall’s lovely gardens which are open to the public.
Four miles away is the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway - which is a memorable way to travel through the amazing lakeside scenery to Bowness-on-Windermere. Guests also benefit from discounted rates at Go Ape, and mountain bike hire in nearby Grizedale.

Fuschia Cottage
Marhamchurch near Bude, Cornwall
Fuschia Cottage is one of three cottages within a courtyard in the Cornish village of Marhamchurch.
Guests have use of an indoor swimming pool which has a glass enclosure that can be opened on warm days - so it’s the best of both worlds.
There’s also a games room which has a pool table and soft play area for younger ones. With yoga sessions and spa treatments for the grown ups, and a tennis court for everyone - there’s plenty of sporting activity for the energetic.
You can also take advantage of the cottage’s farm location, by meeting the animals, including pigs, goats and ponies, and helping out with feeding the animals or collecting eggs.
There’s lots of great walking and cycling in the area, including a canal towpath leading into Bude itself with its lovely sandy beach.
A little further afield, you can visit the Eden Project, Tintagel and lots more.
