The Observer Magazine called Graig Wen "an awe-inspiring corner of Snowdonia" and breathtaking views of the Mawddach Estuary and mountains await you here.

The stylishly converted Victorian slate cutting mill perches above native woodland leading to the water's edge.

Our easy going atmosphere and beautiful environment, make Graig Wen the perfect rural retreat for walkers, bird-watchers, mountain bikers/cyclists, artists, photographers, fisher-folk and star-gazers. Watch woodpeckers from your window or hang out with the herons.

We've got luxury beds, Welsh slate floors, mighty oak beams and custom-made funky furniture. All our guest rooms have been refurbished this year with stylish en-suite bath/shower rooms.

We serve tasty breakfasts and evening meals (on Saturdays), from extremely local producers and there's Fairtrade tea and coffee in rooms.

Guests can explore Graig Wen's 45 acres of wild woodland, streams and meadows or cosy up in the spacious lounge with an eclectic library of books, music and DVDs. There's free Wifi access and (some) mobile reception.

Our dining area and terrace gives you the chance to enjoy some of the best views in Wales over a drink or home cooked evening meals using quality ingredients from very local suppliers (available weekends - restaurant booking service at other times).

Bring your bike and make the most of direct access to the Mawddach cycle trail/footpath. We can provide secure storage for bikes and a collection service from local train station.

You can step straight onto the coastal Mawddach cycle trail, or climb past waterfalls into the foothills of the spectacular Cadair Idris mountain range.

Attractions within easy reach include miles of sandy beaches at Barmouth and Fairbourne; Portmeirion - scene of The Prisoner cult TV show; world heritage site Harlech Castle; Centre for Alternative Technology and Coed-y- Brenin's forest trails for hardcore mountain bikers.

It's a pleasant stroll, peddle, or paddle along the estuary to the picturesque local pub, RSPB reserve or Fairbourne's beach, shops and steam railway.

This is the ideal base to explore the Snowdonia National Park - whether you want to steam up Snowdon on a train or go white-water rafting. The handsome market town of Dolgellau is 5 miles away, offering traditional and contemporary cuisine, cappuccino fixes and an excellent monthly Farmers Market.
