A warm welcome awaits you from Maxine and Graham at Bay House Lake View, which is a traditional Lakeland Stone Victorian villa in the heart of the English Lake District, enjoying a fabulous lakeside location in the old village of Bowness-on-Windermere which nestles picturesquely on the shores of Lake Windermere.

Bowness-on-Windermere is a town on the shore of Windermere halfway along the 12 mile length of the lake between Waterhead at the north end and Lakeside at the south end.

It has developed from its medieval (and probably earlier) origins as a lakeside trading and fishing settlement to become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Lake District, exploiting its marvellous lakeside location.

Although the influx of tourists and ‘off-comers’ began in earnest in the early 19th century, the coming of the railway to Windermere in 1847 and the launching of the lake’s first steamer service in 1845 opened the floodgates to a major expansion and redevelopment of the town in the period 1850-1914.

The oldest part of the town Lowside lies hidden from view in a hollow to the north of St Martin’s Church. It is not so much the buildings as the haphazard layout of the area and small details of vernacular architecture that testify to the historic origin of this small area.

Fallbarrow Road is the ancient northern approach to the settlement winding its way down from New Hall Bank up to The Old England Hotel.

Bay House is situated halfway down Fallbarrow Road opposite the Royal Windermere Yacht Club. Bay House was built by the renowned local builders G.H. Pattinson in 1860 on the site of earlier Fishermans’ cottages and still has the original cellars circa 1750 and is listed as a building of special character by the Lake District National Park.

We are only a minute's walk from the many varied shops, bars and restaurants. The famous Beatrix Potter Museum is two minutes away as is the Bowness Pier, where you can enjoy a leisurely cruise on the Lake.

We offer excellent accommodation with a full English Breakfast to set you up for the day.
At Bay House we have five double and one twin room, all of which are en-suite, tastefully decorated in keeping with the age and character of the property.

Four of our six rooms also have scenic views of the Lake, which is a stone’s throw away.
