Bed and Breakfast of the Year 2009 - Storrs Gate House is a delightful 19th Century, family-run, detached country house, nestling in its own secluded gardens. Situated opposite Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District National Park; the house is exclusively non-smoking and has ample parking.
The Hawkshead Ferry is only a stone's-throw from the doorstep of Storrs Gate House, affording easy access to the far side of Lake Windermere and giving an ideal opportunity to explore areas such as Coniston Water, Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest.
The location, only half a mile from Bowness-on-Windermere, and accessible by a lakeshore stroll, makes it ideal for all local amenities, yet is still away from the hustle and bustle of the busy resort.
There are 7 individually decorated bedrooms including four king-size four posters. One four poster suite has an adjoining sitting room, another has an adjoining dressing room. Each room has TV/DVD player, hair dryer, central heating and tea/coffee making facilities. All are en-suite,with power showers.
Two high quality bedrooms on the ground floor are suitable for the less mobile, a twin (or super-king if preferred), having a double-sized, flush to floor shower with grab rails, and an extremely spacious king-size Queen Anne four poster room with double-sized step-in shower, which opens onto a terraced garden.
There is separate ramped, wheelchair access to these rooms, and portable shower chair and toilet surround frame can be provided if required. Both rooms have space in which to manoeuvre a wheelchair and are extremely well furnished.
Guests can start the day with a choice of fayre - from a hearty, traditional Cumbrian breakfast, to a lighter or vegetarian alternative. Free-range farm eggs, Cumberland sausages, homemade muffins, jams, marmalades are a speciality.
Storrs Gate House is family owned and run by Vince and Shirley Byrne. We are friendly, "hands on" hosts and personally look after you during your stay with us.
Visit Britain 5 Star with Silver Award - one of very few in Bowness-on-Windermere.
