Umberleigh Bridge Tourist Information |
|
Umberleigh North Devon in the Parishes of Chittlehampton and Atherington Umberleigh is a quiet village set around the old three arched Umberleigh bridge, by the river Taw (Tarka the Otter). Only 6 miles from Barnstaple on 377 Exeter road. South Molton and Torrington 8 miles on B3227 served by the Tarka line train to Umberleigh Station. Chittlehampton, Chittlehamholt and Atherington are only a couple of miles either way from the bridge, and all well worth a visit. All villages have facilities for food and drink. There are plenty of 'Old English' Thatched cottages in Chilttlehampton, which is particularly quaint, a fine English village square and great spired Church and medieval stocks; certainly one to walk round. A little further away from Atherington is High Bickington, again lots of old charm, and possibly the most complete old English Devon village is Chulmleigh, some 8 miles away. Come to Umberleigh area and discover many hidden and undiscovered gems around the Parish and area...walks by the river and woods, discover the hidden Otter places by the Taw...Fishing days out.
