Stokeinteignhead Tourist Information |
|
This is the thatched village you dream about staying in. Situated in a wide valley bottom surrounded by round hills like dumplings of field and wood. It smells of apple orchards and warm grass. Not a large place, but there are some wonderful old cottages and barns. There is a friendly pub serving great food. An older local man comes visiting regularly to slake his thirst, arriving on an ancient tractor as if the 21st century had not yet arrived. The church dedicated to St. Andrew, has an interesting graveyard, some very old graves, and as the sun sets the stones warmly glow. If you sit there of an evening you'll probably hear owls, maybe if your lucky, see one. This is a peaceful village close all the amenities of the south coast, beaches, sites, and the wildness of the moors inland. Description by Rowan Dykewood
