Roberttown Tourist Information |
|
Roberttown a quiet residential Village. It has been established for almost 200 years on top of a hill overlooking the Pennines to the west. Traditionally on the Coach route from Leeds to Huddersfield before the A62 was built. It has a Church (All saints), Junior and Infants School, Spen Vally High School, Community Centre, Liversedge Cricket Club, Working Men's Club and three Pubs. The Church was built around 1830 and has a substantial Congregation. The Junior School has around 150 -200 children. The High School has about a thousand pupils. The community Centre serves the village by hosting many voluntary classes from Oil Painting to Martial Arts, as well as housing the term time playgroup. Liversedge Cricket Club as been in Roberttown for over a hundred years and has much of its own history that Cricket Enthusiasts could investigate. The WMC has two Snooker Tables and is warm and welcoming with many local characters residing there. The Three Pubs are all very different with varied client base. Although for good beer they all do well. The New In in the Centre of the Village most clearly reflects the Village Population. The Fountain is a Small Traditional Pub on the outskirts of the Village. The Star Inn (Linked to the Luddites) is a large open pub. Description by Gary Smith
