Great Houghton is a little village situated near Thurnscoe and Darfield in Barnsley. It has a primary school for 3 to 11 year olds. Children then go to a near by village for a secondary school. There are two shops in Great Houghton, also a petrol station a veterinary surgery a skate park and a fish and chip shop. Coming in to Great Houghton from Hemsworth you will notice most of the top end of the village is older, except for the new houses where the old crown was situated, the pub was burned down in 2004. The other pubs in the village are the Old Hall the working mans club and Sandhill Tavern. Great Houghton is a nice place to live for all age groups. Families with children will be pleased to know that there is a park and recently a skate park has been built just across from St. Michael and all angels church. Description by Bethany Dancy
