Down Ampney Tourist Information

Down Ampney is the birthplace of composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. In the bell tower of the old church, there is a modest exhibit about his life.

Also RVW's father, who was the church's vicar, is buried in the churchyard.

The church itself dates to the late 13th Century, and is worthy of visit

So if you are an admirer of this great composer, you owe it to yourself to visit Down Ampney. The church and exhibit, like the composer's music, is simple and beautiful.
