Contributing Town Photographs Guidelines, Terms and Conditions |
Do you have recent photographs of one of the towns on AboutBritain.com? If so, it would be fantastic if you would contribute them to the site - thousands of people view our town pages every day, so lots of people would enjoy your photos.
Guidelines
Here are some guidelines to help you:
- Original: Your photographs must be your own original work - not copied or scanned from anywhere else. We can only publish original photos that you have taken yourself.
- High Quality: Where possible, please upload large images, don't pre-size them - our software will scale the images before we show them on the page. Also, please contribute the highest quality images you can - you don't need to be David Bailey - but we're looking for good quality sharp images with the correct exposure, so they'll look good on the page.
- Accurate: It goes without saying that we only want to publish photos which accurately represent their subject. A photo should show exactly what a visitor standing in the same spot would see - please don't use Photoshop wizardry to mis-represent the places you're photographing.
- Places not People: We're looking for photos which will illustrate each town to potential visitors - so they need to be views of the town, or items of interest in the town. Sorry - photos of your Aunty Maude are not suitable. Photos can have people in them - but they should be in the background, not the subject of the photograph.
- Positive and Relevant to Visitors: Your photos will be viewed by potential visitors to the town. They might be tourists on holiday, people visiting friends or relatives in the area, or people visiting on business. They will want to see the highlights of the town, so concentrate on those. Which points of interest can they see in the town while they're there?
- Non Promotional: We hope your photos will show general views of the town, and individual points of interest - they should not overtly promote your own business interests. (e.g. photos of your shop).
