Truro Tourist Information

Truro is Cornwall's commercial and administrative centre. Truro became fashionable during the 1800's with rich merchants whose wealth came from tin mining, at the same time it was the hub of county society. This is reflected in Truro's Georgian Terraces some of the finest architecture west of Bath, the best examples are to be found in Lemon Street built in the 1790's, and approximately 20 years later in Walsingham Place.

Truro has an excellent pedestrianised shopping centre, a cinema, leisure centre and the Hall for Cornwall, a major performing arts venue with year-round programme.

Truro Cathedral - The Cathedral which has three spires, was designed by John Pearson in the classic Gothic revival style; it was completed in 1910, the first Anglican cathedral to be built in England since St. Paul's. The building incorporates part of the old parish church of St. Mary, which stood on this site.

Royal Cornwall Museum - Cornwall's flagship Museum and Art Gallery, housing internationally famous Cornish minerals, Cornish archaeology, local history, ceramics, costume and natural history.

Bosvigo Gardens - A series of small enclosed or walled garden 'rooms' surround the Georgian house(not open) planted with mostly herbaceous perennials for colour and foliage effect, a plantsman's garden.

Trelissick Gardens - A 20-acre diverse collection including rhododendrons, camellias, acers, hydrangeas, conifers and tree ferns, The gently sloping site is sheltered by woodland and surrounded by 376 acres of parkland with magnificent river views.
