Redruth's architecture bears testament to its rich mining history, celebrated each June with Murdoch Day festival. The town centre has a cinema and range of shops. The granite tor of Carn Brea, crowned with a monument to mine owner Francis Basset overlooks Redruth. The Brea has panoramic views and was the site of a Stone Age hillfort and a renovated castle.
