Machrihanish Tourist Information

Once linked by a narrow-gauge railway to Campbeltown (closed in the 1930's), the village is the site for a classic links Golf course, which Tom Morris helped to design. Its 1st hole is rated by Jack Nicklaus as the World's greatest opening hole.

South of the village lie the 'Gauldrons' and the ruined village of Craigaig, fine for walks, and nearby the remains can still be seen of Fessenden's Wireless mast, which on 1st January 1906 transmitted a wireless telegraphy signal to America.

The Airport, originally one of two Royal Naval Air Station and a US Navy Seals unit, but now used for the air service to Glasgow. The spectacular sandy beach, stretching for miles up the coast to Westport, is a great centre for Surfing and Windsurfing.
