Gloucester Docks.

Gloucester is the home to Britain's most Inland Port, whose outstanding Victorian Warehouses are stars in numerous period films and television dramas. In its heyday the Gloucester Docks formed the gateway for waterborne traffic into the Midlands, when tall ships and barges queued for miles along the Gloucester and Sharpness canal. It was along this canal that captain Howard Blackburn travelled during his epic single handed Atlantic crossing from Gloucester USA to Gloucester England in August 1899.

Today Gloucester Docks is known for its award-winning museums, attractions, shops and restaurants. The National waterways Museum follows 200 years of life and development of Britain's inland waterways. At Llanthony Warehouse visitors can drive a barge through a lock and see first hand how canal families lived and worked on the barges.

The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum is a must for visitors. Follow the lives of two of Britain's finest regiments, during war and peace. The Gloucester Antique centre has five floors packed with Antiques and Collectables. Merchants Quay Shopping centre, is where high quality shops sell the unique and unusual at affordable prices. Boat trips along the canal run from Easter to October.

This makes Gloucester the ideal centre for a holiday in the glorious county of Gloucestershire.
