Here are some of the oldest dwellings and associated barns in the village, dating back to the mid-seventeenth century and among them is May's Cottage, built in 1655 and its adjoining barn conversion.
A short driveway leaves the village road leading to the car parking area with adjacent flagged patio and path providing access to May's Cottage.
Entry is though a small porch to a cosy lounge with an original, cast iron kitchen range with open fire sitting on a raised tiled hearth.
Through the lounge is a stairway and adjacent, small but well equipped kitchen with flagged floor, Belfast sink, panel boarding and pine furniture. The stairway leads to the landing that serves a double bedroom, a single bedroom occupying a sloping roof space and a bathroom with bath, washbasin and toilet.
To the front of the cottage there is a lawned garden with flower borders and shrubs, to the side of this a small, walled patio garden dedicated to the holidaymaker and an adjacent paddock.
The cottage retains many of its original features such as exposed beams, flagged floors, ledged doors and panel boarding dressed with tasteful antique furniture, ornaments and prints by local artists.
There are beautiful views from the lounge and double bedroom which become spectacular on stepping outside to the garden or paddock.
This is a true Dales' cottage trapped in time but with enough modernity to offer a very good standard of accommodation.
