Welcome to Henry and Carolyn Chesshire's No 1 Mortimer Court, an idyllic, romantic secret hideaway in the centre of Mediaeval Ludlow! A special place to stay!

This delightfully situated Grade II listed end of terrace mews cottage is tucked away down a private walkway off Old Street, one of Ludlow's famous Georgian streets.

Quietly secluded with absolutely divine secret courtyard garden this pretty cottage is a perfect romantic hideaway for two. It opens into the open-plan sitting/dining and extremely well-equipped kitchen areas. Straight stairs lead to a light and airy, sunny double bedroom which overlooks the garden. There is a separate bathroom with powerful shower-over-bath.

There are sitting areas with herbs and scented shrubs - gorgeous on sunny mornings, brick pathway leads to secret, walled Mediterranean-style garden with specimen plants, palms, trees, luscious climbers and flowering shrubs. Wonderfully quiet and private, perfect for drinks, BBQs and relaxing. Bring out the chairs, light the candles, open a bottle of wine and wait for the stars to shine!

The garden shed has cycle space and useful equipment for walkers and cyclists.

In keeping with the award-winning breakfasts we serve at our home, Lower Buckton Country House, we think that guests at No 1 should have something similar. Every let includes a Local to Ludlow breakfast basket of delicious locally sourced, bought or caught food.

Local inns sell award-winning Ludlow-brewed beer and Shropshire/Herefordshire wines. Michelin starred restaurants, famous teashops, cafes and restaurants. Discover Slow Food in Ludlow.

Explore Ludlow and its small, independent food/drink shops and regular farmers' markets. You will find a feast of locally produced food and drink. The bakers' shops are the envy of England and so are the butchers' and the green-grocers'.

Ludlow is full of quirky antiques shops, original art shops, unusual interiors, architectural and ironmonges' shops, none to be missed!

The lively Assembly Rooms has films, plays, concerts, musicals, exhibitions and talks. Highlight of the year is Ludlow Festival centred upon the Norman Castle which has dominated the town for centuries. Explore the cathedral-like parish church, ancient market places, wide Georgian streets, cobbled alleyways and hidden courtyards. Famous throughout the world and often used for film locations. Oscar winning Atonement was filmed locally at Stokesay Court.

Spectacular scenic walks to and along the banks of the river Teme pass mediaeval packhorse bridges, several enormous weirs and grand houses. Climb to Whitecliffe, this high point rewards with stunning views over South Shropshire/north Herefordshire where England meets Wales and known as the Welsh Marches. More history, open gardens, ancient churches, mansion houses, castles, market towns, cathedral cities, industrial heritage, long distance walking routes than you can shake a stick at.
